Pekka Vataja


Pekka Vataja is a senior corporate banking executive with management experience gained from banks in Helsinki, New York and London. His career extends over many business cycles and through periods of organic growth as well as acquisitions, divestments and restructurings. He has in-depth knowledge of practices, products and structures relevant in debt capital markets and international corporate banking.

Pekka was member of Danske Bank Group’s North European CIB management group, from 2006 to 2010, and simultaneously member of Sampo Bank’s (Danske Bank’s Finnish subsidiary) management team. Prior to this, he was General Manager of Danske Bank Helsinki Branch 2000-2008 and General Manager of Postipankki New York Branch 1995-1998. From 1988 to 1994 he was Deputy General Manager and member of corporate credit committee at Postipankki Ltd. In 1986-1988 he was assigned to Postipankki London branch as senior manager in charge of project financing. He has also worked as director of financial and legal matters at a major construction company, Finn-Stroi Ltd, in 1984-1986. He started his career as in-house lawyer specializing in capital markets documentation.

Since 2010, Pekka has been an independent corporate advisor. He is currently Chairman of the Board of Power Deriva Oy, an investment service provider.

He holds an LL.M degree from the University of Helsinki (1978) and he is a senior lawyer, trained on the bench. Other studies include INSEAD AMP in 2004.
